Heffers has been selling books in Cambridge since 1876 and is part of the fabric of the historic city centre. We pride ourselves on being a proper bookshop, packed with a vast range of titles from all kinds of subjects to explore, and with knowledgeable and friendly booksellers who are ready to offer advice and recommendations.
Our wide-ranging stock covers so much more than just the current bestsellers, with well-stocked departments covering everything from aviation through midwifery to zoology and everything in between!
Heffers is home to what has been called “the most quirky and individual crime section in the country, bar none” and across all our departments we aim to offer interesting, beautiful books that you won’t find in just any bookshop.
Come and take a look at our ever-growing secondhand section, or visit our DVD section which caters perfectly to viewers in search of classic, arthouse films or for something a little bit different.
Our Children’s shop has gone from strength to strength since it opened in 2010 and provides a haven for little people with a perfect mixture of classic children’s books along with exciting new titles. Our friendly children’s team work hard to provide lots of children’s activities; from the colouring table which is always available to author events which take place on the Storytime Stage.
With a world class university on its doorstep, Heffers always has the finest range of titles in academic subjects, along with expert staff to help you track down the book you need. Subjects covered include: History, Classics, Theology, Philosophy, Politics, Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Medicine and Psychology.
In addition, we sell a wide range of stationery – greetings cards, beautiful notebooks, diaries, book bags, calendars, pads, pens and paper.
We are also an official stockist of Cambridge Satchels from the Cambridge Satchel Company. We stock a wide range of colours and sizes and we are the only place to buy the satchels in their homw town!
Heffers is the only place in Cambridge that can print personalised OS maps from our OS mapping centre.
The shop hosts many evening events with authors discussing their latest books in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
